Determining Flutes
C Flute – 41 Flutes/Foot – Caliper 3/16” – Excellent stacking strength with good print qualities.
B Flute – 49 Flutes/Foot – Caliper 1/8” – Good stacking strength with above average printing surface.
E Flute – 95 Flutes/Foot – Caliper 1/16” – Limited stacking strength with excellent printing surface.

Burst Strength/Mullen

This strength measurement relates indirectly to a box’s ability to withstand external and/or internal forces. It is based upon testing that measures the force needed to rupture combined board. The force is simulated by vacuum or hydraulic pressure. A Mullen tester then measures the strength of the material in pounds per inch.

Edge Crush Test (ECT)

The primary purpose of this measurement is to predict compression strength of a completed box. The test measures the amount of force required to compress an on-edge corrugated sheet (One square inch). The force is then measured in pounds per square inch.

Coatings and Adhesives

WRA/MRA – Water Resistance Adhesives or Moisture Resistant Adhesives should be used when products are stored in cold or frozen storage. These adhesives are also recommended when light amounts of moisture or high humidity is prevalent.

Wax Cascaded – This option, which consists of molten paraffin wax, is primarily used for agricultural and meat products where moisture contents are heavy.

Wax Impregnated – Although this process also uses molten paraffin wax, it is only applied to the medium (or one of the facings - very uncommon). This is a common solution for products emitting condensation or where light amounts of moisture are present. It is also popular in the agricultural and meat industries.

Ludox – The primary use of this coating is for anti-skid applications.
